I walked in to the local coin shop today.
A real hole in the wall type place. It's been there maybe 40 years. Piles of stuff every where. Well I needed supplies. He has everything. I introduced myself and explained I was a newbie to coins and needed some things. he was nice and helpful answered all my questions. But what blew my mind was when he gave me my change he gave me 1 dollar coin 2 1971 half dollars and a 2 dollar bill. Wished me luck and said to enjoy coin collecting.

That Really made my day.

It's not uncommon for the dealers to give out interesting change. Makes you want to come back to their store and they dispose of stuff that they can't sell at a premium. It's good for you and good for them. I always look forward to my change when I go to my LCS. He usually asks what sort of stuff I want.

I've also gotten Ikes and $2 bills as change from some dealers at coin shows. I usually spend the $2 bills but I keep the Ikes because I only have about 8 of them.

Your lucky. By me dealers barely want to give you any change. Lots of dealers now tell me they try to make prices so all come out even.

At the show in Raleigh this weekend, one of the sellers asked if I would take two dollar bills in change and I said sure, but then I wouldn't be able to spend them on other coins. I got two bills with consecutive serial numbers. They also gave me a Sac dollar and two SBAs. The rest was all ones (about 10 of them.) Perhaps a good way to save a few bucks.

The majority of the messy LCS I've been in over the years always seem to have the nicest dealers who love to answer questions.

The dollar coin was a SBA.
Today at the Javits Center NYC I got 2 Sac dollar coins and one GW dollar coin. Just for asking if the coffee lady had anything odd or old in here draw. I read about people asking on this website. It works.
Last night I got 9 pennies 2017 p now I have to check for defects.

TJ!

I love those type coin shops.
And your collection is growing already!
I always ask on the rare times I actually go inside my bank if they have any odd coins.
