I started collecting 5 years ago, not really knowing what I was doing, but keeping coins that were different shapes, sizes, colours and had different images than what I was used to.
Recently, in the process of cleaning, I decided to sort my coins. I had to do a lot of research on a few of them, using online forums such as this and a website called Numista.com to keep track of my collection online.
After a while, I was really addicted to this hobby. I've now taken up coin roll hunting, and I frantically search my change whenever I get some.
Right now, I'm collecting old nickels and all pennies, as I'm trying to complete my collection of dates and styles.
