My guess would be that the missing letters were caused by a grease-filled die. I don't think it would add much value to the coin in this case. The weight is what it should be.

The best way to tell for sure if this is the case is to look at the first devices just beyond the affected area. If it is a Grease Filled Die, then the devices there will be wider because of the Grease Fill. This looks like the case on your coin. If it were damage, then a smearing of the devices on the surface of coin would be seen. But as already mention, this is the cause and probably not a premium for this coin. So you could save it as an example for new collectors or just spend it. Keeping it for a record would be a benefit incase you needed to examine it further. Taking good clear images of certain areas would be helpful if you just want to release it. It is up to you what you will do with it.
