I just got this and wondering your thoughts? There are more issues in hand than I thought but is it enough to send back?

AU-53 or 55 sharpness, beautiful example of a very tough date with an original mintage of only 4,400 pieces. Congrats!

I want to say AU-50 but just enough wear to hold it back imo. I grade it EF-45.

What problems do you see with it?

Looks au55, razor sharp and very attractive but some issues. The right scroll under the motto in reverse is a little weird. Some areas of the obverse fields are a little suspect and may have been worked on. Perhaps tooling to remove scratches.

Although these late seated half issues in business strike have low mintages due to the ramp up of Morgan $ production, many were saved and are readily available. Apparently many knew these had low mintages and many were saved. It is actually more difficult to find well worn examples. Supply in this odd case is generally greater that demand for these coins.

Still a great coin. Congrats.

I would keep it if you got it for a good price.

Almost looks like a circulated proof.

These tough dates are usually in TPG holders even when in lower grades.

Ungraded coins are not in TPG holders for the usual reasons. In this case, I think I see work in the obverse field to remove some grafitti.

I'd say it's Ch AU and not cleaned but what's the mark on the rev by the end of the motto? Looks like two little bullet holes and, then, the eagle looks like he's just finishing a worm off. Of course, may be nothing much in person.

SilverDollar2017 & Westernsky, yes here is a better image of the obverse issue. Those other marks were on the 2x2 holder and are not on the coin. This does seem like a proof coin and I will try to get some images up soon to show that.

That 2nd set of pictures would totally lose my enthusiasm for the coin IMO. If possible I think a return would be prudent.
