The Vijayanagara Empire (also called Karnata Empire and the Kingdom of Bisnegar by the Portuguese) was based in the Deccan Plateau region in South India. It was established in 1336 by Harihara I and his brother Bukka Raya I of Sangama Dynasty. The empire rose to prominence as a culmination of attempts by the southern powers to ward off Islamic invasions by the end of the 13th century. It lasted until 1646, although its power declined after a major military defeat in 1565 by the Deccan sultanates. The empire is named after its capital city of Vijayanagara, whose ruins surround present day Hampi, now a World Heritage Site in Karnataka, India.Archaeological excavations at Vijayanagara have revealed the empire's power and wealth, and at its pinnacle, around 1500, was one of the top ten largest cities in the world..

I agree that it is interesting. Do you think that the extra tab of metal is damage or just an oddly shaped flan? Or something else?

Thanks for the question Spence..as this made me look into the coin more in depth and now can attribute it accurately! The sellers attribution was completely wrong!

This takes the date of the coin out of the 1600AD threshold for ancients so if the mods want to move it feel free and apologies
One thing that is confusing me is on Numista they state this..
Only 5 coins from this Kingdom are known, all from 1743 (They mean types).
Coin made between 1500 and 1580...Any thoughts?

South India Kingdom
Sivaganga
Copper Kasu
Copper Kasu Coin of Sasivarnadeva of Shivaganga Rajas.
Shivaganga Rajas, Sasivarnadeva (1730-1750AD), Copper Kasu,
Obv: lord rama and laxmana
Rev: lingam on alter with neately placed garland, (Mitch # 960),

Here's a couple more examples (not mine) showing the irregular cobs used to manufacture these coins.I've now seen quite alot of these and each one is unique in its form..
