I can't tell if it is the penny or my cheap microscope playing tricks on me.

@X13, your pics are fine. Looks like you have Machine Doubling on this cent.

Darn! Finding errors is hard! I searched through 2,500 pennies and came up with nothing but a possible die crack.

It takes time and practice. I've been through 30,000 plus. Everyone here is very helpful and the knowledge we gain in searching and learning... amazing!

Wow! How many error coins have you found after searching through so many?

yep, I searched $63 in change recently (mostly pennies— I urge my customers to bring their loose change collections to me so I can search them) and found ten wheaties and nothing else. it is always worth it. if i'd have found nothing, it was worth it.

you go through enough coins and eventually you notice things, repeatings, familiar nitnits on coins, etc., gets you thinkin, makes you ask questions... I go into every search or shop thinking i'm likely not going to cherrypick anything, so when I do find something it's a total surprise. I keep my expectations curbed. treats me well enough.

there's lots of stuff out there to find. keep looking. you'll be finding things, no worry. it just takes time & determination. with the crew here backstopping you, you are golden.

cheers!

If errors and varieties were common, they wouldn't be special!

.

Xonor13... I've found many Error coins in my hunts. In my beginning, I found a 1984 Lincoln Cent major rim Cud error. I researched it and had decided to keep it after throwing it back in the bank pile twice. It was different. I held onto it for quite awhile, then decided to put it on ebay. It sold for around $200! My one and only coin I decided to let go of. It takes patience and learning. Keep searching! You just never know what you'll find. Good luck!
