Hey @SF11Dude, is that a die chip or a little chunk of foreign matter wedged in the R?

The color looks off but I think it is slightly flattened. You can see on the zoom how it overlaps the legs of the "R".
I did preserve it with pure acetone and pick at it with a plastic toothpick trying to not scratch the surface.

Quote: it overlaps the legs of the "R". Exactly why I was questioning that it is a die chip. I'll be interested to read what others think.

I can't remember who it was, but someone here dubbed this type of chip a "mini skirt", like a skirted R.

According to Cuds on coins it falls into the "BIE" or LDB (Lincoln Die Break) Category. Check out the link and go to the II-F-5 "EIR" variety. Your coin is not listed and maybe should be emailed to JC for confirmation/Attribution http://cuds-on-coins.com/Lincoln-cent-bies/

I was the one who tried to coin the term "miniskirt" for the short "skirted "R"... (RIDB with "shark fin" on "9" and "miniskirt" on "R") see CoC Got a lot of laughs... I also tried "cuddle" for a Cud near the "L" but was denied...tough crowd
