We see so many spikeys in the same general location on various years....why is that? I wonder if the holding/ mounting mechanism for the hammer die doesn't have an adjustment, or tightening point at the 12 o'clock position. This may put additional stresses upon that area of the die, that side, so to speak of a circle! Anyone know the answer?

Interesting one SF11Dude! I have not seen that before. Have you checked COC to see if it's listed yet? @Crazyb0, I have a feeling that you already know the answer

I think the reason why is because if the difference in height. Like the fact that the top of the head is the deepest point of the die and the field of the die breaks due to the thickness of it and how it's close to the edge? I've noticed the newer coins coming out has lesser if thickness to the devices and seems flatter and less detailed. I think if it was like the newer Jefferson nickels that have it where the top of the head bleeds off the edge, where there is no difference in height from the edge/field/device, it would leave lesser room for this to happen. The difference in height would creat a lot of stress on a small gap eventually creating the crack. If there was a bigger gap between the devices, and the edge of the die, I could see this taking much longer to happen, due to the extra strength, cause more metal fills the gap. Or if there was no gap at all.

CuAg, that do make cents! The peak of hair is the closest of the element to the rim, much like the corners of the Memorial are, and the edges of the wheat stalks, both of which are deeply set details.
