Hi everyone,

I am a total newbie with zero knowledge about coins
and I recently got a Sassanid silver drachm as a present. The donor
claims it is genuine, but I would like to have the opinion of a couple of experts about it.

Do you think this one is genuine from the pictures?

It has a diameter of ca 33 mm, thickness of about 0.8 mm an weighs about 4.1 g.

Thank you very much for your help

Regards

Bertone

@Bertone, first welcome to CCF. Second, what a very nice present to have received. I agree with the others that it looks real--pretty amazing that a coin from the 6th or 7th Century AD could be in such nice shape. Other than a few small encrustations on the obverse, it has very little wear. Great pick-up!

Hi everybody,

at first thank you for the very warm welcome here. That does not happen in many forums...

I am happy to read that you all think it is genuine. I also thought it looks very authentic, but wanted to have'a second opinion.
I ve always been fascinated by antiquities and the history they tell, but I never possessed any ancient coins so far,
so maybe I ve just found a new hobby ;)

Thanks again
Regards

Bertone, Welcome! I have to tell you this is a very rewarding hobby. I've been collecting for about 3 years now and I can tell you I've learned a lot on this forum. I peruse this site often and learn something every time I do so. I've never felt intimated by asking a "dumb" question.

Study and read and ask for help when you're unsure of something. In time, you will be more confident in knowing what you like and what to buy.

ENJOY!
