1993 And 2015 Pennies Missing Charcters

Xonor13 New Member United States 25 Posts	Posted 01/24/2018 9:46 pm So I came across these two pennies and I don't know if it was a mint issue or damage after it left the mint. The 2015 penny looks to be in mint state, but the surface is basically flattened to a certain point. The pictures don't really do the 2015 penny justice and it is far more noticeable in person. The 1993 penny is just "missing" the 3 but it is visible if you look closely. Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34424 Posts	Posted 01/24/2018 10:01 pm My first thought was wear too, but wouldn't wear that was substantial enough to partly obliterate letters also be substantial enough to expose the zinc core? I'm thinking that maybe both are greasers, but the '15 also has some surface wear. Errers and Varietys Bedrock of the Community United States 74556 Posts	Posted 01/24/2018 10:04 pm Both of them look to be the result of a Grease Filled Die (AKA Filled Die or Struck Through Grease). The devices get block, preventing the full strike of the letters/devices. That's why the devices are wider in size. Errers and Varietys. Report this Post to the Staff
