My apologies. I'm in California on leave and the coins are back home in Tokyo. I just noticed this on a pic I had taken and tried to use the screenshot - selected area to zoom in. Apparently it didn't look as well online as it did on my screen. I'll see if I have any other pics of it in my camera roll.

My two thoughts were:

1974-D - I have been unsuccessful in finding any reference to different variations, date fonts, or earlobe shapes on the 1974-D specifically. Although the 1974-S Copper-Clad Proof has the angled earlobe, the look of the date is not the same. The seven and 4 especially, look different with the 7 fatter, less detailed/curvy and the 4 with the serif on the bottom I thought might indicate a variation I hadn't come across yet.
