PCGS - PCGS is now grading over 3100 gold coins from the S.S. Central America, the Ship of Gold. Some of these incredible numismatic treasures will be available for viewing at Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp and Sports Collectible Show at the Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach California on February 22, 2018 - not far from the Queen Mary.
I'll message PCGS and tell them to stop marking coins cleaned and to start marking them conserved. You always have a choice, but you won't get top dollar if it isn't shinny.
All I know is, if I'm buying ship wreck gold. I expect some grim and muck. To me it adds to the story behind the gold and proves it was indeed under the ocean for a lengthy period of time.
there are miles between a properly conserved coin and a cleaned coin...but let's not hijack this thread, if anything start a thread to debate it
this release of coins looks quite exciting! the kind of thing that can leave a guy speechless if only I could afford such a piece! not only from the numismatic standpoint but also from the significant historical standpoint these coins possess as well!
