You might want to edit the title to say 1838 half dollar.
I'm not sure if that's a chopmark...another member who is more knowledgeable than me about chopmarks will probably be able to identify it. Looks like it has been cleaned in the past.
F details, cleaned/graffiti.

I really didn't think this one had been cleaned, until I took the picture and saw all those fine lines going in the same direction on both sides.
...sigh... live and learn...

vf-30 details cleaned but that doesn't look like any chop mark I've ever seen.

I guess "chopmark" is the wrong word here. It looks like somebody took a leather punch and stuck it into the coin to see if it was really silver. I read somewhere that some old silver coins really do have dental impressions in them for the same reason. Either way, I unreasonably love this coin, even if somebody did clean it at some point.

I'm glad you like it Ruby! That's all that matters  This is a two year type coin that is needed in most type coin collections. I'm not quite at VF-30. I'd probably grade it conservatively at VF-25 if it were in my collection.

A details coin does not warrant a comparative numerical technical grade. VF, details, graffiti.

With the graffiti and cleaning, unfortunately, the value goes down. I would rather have my problem-free example that is in AG/G condition than this cleaned/graffiti F/VF example.
