The brief description read Roman Provincial
I think Greek Imperial is more accurate ......
Well I recognize the handsome face easy enough !
But what is the place ? And what is it depicted on the reverse ? The emperor seated left seems logical enough but who is standing in front ?

Bronze 29-30mm 16.17 grams
Harshly cleaned is an understatement !
Still has decent eye appeal though

I can now edit and add the proper attribution !

KINGS of THRACE Rhoemetalces III with Gaius (Caligula) C Æ 29-30mm 16.17 grams Struck AD 38-41
Obv. GAIW KAISARI GERMANIKW SEBASTW
laureate head of Gaius (Caligula) left
Rv BASILE US ROIMHTALKAS KOTUWS
Gaius seated left on curule chair presenting diadem in right hand to Rhoemetalces standing right, cradling spear in left arm and receiving diadem in right hand.
RPC I 1722 BMC 1-2; SNG Copenhagen

Very rare indeed !

Any ideas appreciated
It has me stumped

Nicely done !
I had an inkling that the Balkans were the right direction. I had eliminated just about every other area by style.
Not that mine compares with CNG but ......
I like €36.5 better !
No 15% buyers premium either.
Rest in Peace

Another proof that you can guess the emperor or personage from the portrait. I've always thought that was remarkable.

So I remarked...

Nice snag for sure.

Not a $1000 coin in that condition, but still a rare example to pick up is the price is right.

What I find far more remarkable is that it took Bob L mere minutes to identify the coin !
The portrait was easy even for an old fool like me !

It has happened so many times, that I cease to find it remarkable anymore. @bobL is the coin whisperer.

Nice! I have two Caligula provincials... apparently of the same type (not the one in the OP, but from a different client kingdom).

Funnily, I had the first one unidentified for quite a while (considered posting it on CCF, but couldn't get a good photo), and then bought the second one (in a different place) because I read "Germanikos" on it and (correctly) guessed that it meant the coin must have been from the 1st century.
Then, the day I figured out the second coin, I happened to stumble on the first, and went "wait, that looks familiar"... lo and behold, it was the exact same type (and even part of the "Germanikos" legend was visible).

That said, the two coins are extremely different in size and, especially, weight - so much, in fact, that attributing them to the same type feels weird.
I really should post that pair on CCF eventually. I think I even made some photos - I just need to pass them through the optimizer.
