So I bought 3 jars of pennies from my 80 year old friend. And this was on top of one.

PMD, Post-Mint Damage. Didn't happen at the mint, just a damaged coin.

Looks damaged to me. You can see the flap flattened on the obverse. If it were a real error, there would be no flap on the obverse. If folded down, it would cover the area cut out of the coin.

I've never seen any mint error like it. Probably PMD?
