I disagree with the assessments offered on this post.

Any reputable coin dealer will tell you the same. It's PMD (Post Mint Damage), most likely from exposure to very hot temperatures.

Why do you think it's a mint error?

Hello.. 82dAirborne,
I have a Liberty V nickel similar to what you describe. I was curious what you ever found out about your coin? Did you ever have it looked at or appraised? I am uploading some pics of my coin. Any thoughts are appreciated Thanks!

It's not a major mint error. There may be a lamination defect on the obverse, but it does not command much of a premium due to the condition of the rest of the coin.

I can see where some of it is PMD but the back where it shows the outline of a bust and even on the front where it looks pressed into the metal leads me to believe that it was caused at a mint. I don't see how the pressures required to cause these features could have been applied anywhere else. I actually " Have the coin in my possession" and can "feel the surface of the coin" not to mention examining it under a strong digital microscope. It's easy to dismiss something when you don't actually have the object in your own personal possession to examine it in greater detail than just pictures can provide.

Show me where there is an outline of a bust on the reverse. All I see is PMD.

I wish I had a digital scale, that is on my list of things to buy. Next time I am in Springfield I will stop by a coin shop to get some more info. Sorry. When I get a scale I will post the weight.
