Poll Question
As I've spent the years filling out my obsession types such as Liberty Seated dimes, I've managed my purchases of slabbed type coins towards what will never be a complete type set because I can't afford some of what's required.

However, I have saved some budget money, in the $500 range, and I'm down to several choices. I would love the CCFs opinions on what you would get from the choices I present. Your voices will be weighed heavily and of course I will share what I wind up getting. Even if I don't list a choice and you want to toss in YHO I would never not be thankful for the time you took to chime in.

So, what would you put in your wallet?

Poll Choices
 Sheild Nickel
  Two Cent Piece
  Capped Bust quarter
  Barber quarter

Realistically, you could get a pretty nice example of each of those for $500. I'm not sure why you'd put it all towards just one piece, unless you're going for high mint state grades.

For what it's worth though, I voted for the Capped Bust quarter just because I have one coming in the mail.

You can get a decent xf40 capped quarter for $350-$400. I got mine xf40 PCGS CAC for like $380ish. In AU and up they get really pricey.

I just voted for Capped Bust quarter, get the best you can for that money. I agree you could get all four. The others will probably not increase in value over time as well as the quarter will. ( However Barber quarters in high grade used to be a heck of a lot cheaper )

I voted Two Cent because of the unusual denomination. Plus, it's the only coin of color.

I voted Barber just b/c I really like the looks of the design if the coin is in great condition. Five hundred would likely net a beautiful Barber.

I voted 2 cent - a 1864 clashed with the Indian cent.
My personal vote - always for a Flying Eagle :) .... clashed of course.

It seems like the Capped Bust quarter is the crowd favourite. I cannot disagree with that.

excellent feedback and suggestions. I really like AU at a minimum for eye appeal unless I find a technically graded EF45 that should be in a 50+ holder.
Capped Bust quarter is very appealing and I like the majority. I will contemplate some more and begin my search on a CBQ and 2C.

Thanks for the feedback CCF.

I'd go for the 2 Cent coin.

For $500, you can get a nice Shield nickel, Two Cent Piece, AND Barber quarter. All AU/MS. Or you could get an EF/AU Capped Bust quarter. Since you have the money now, go for the tougher coin so you don't have to wait as long to get some of the other coins.

Sort of my thinking.
Go for the coin(s) that will satisfy you for a LONG time.
That basically means fewer but higher grade coins.

Here's my slabbed 7070 so far...I'm actually missing a few coins that were in another box. But you get the idea of the grade areas I am staying in.

That 1904 25-cent gold coin you have there is really neat. I've never seen one of those before, but it looks tiny - it makes the Mercury dime beside it seem like a large coin! Must be an interesting type set if it includes obscure non-circulating issues like that.

That little coin is awesome. Its got a Fleur-De-Li on the obverse and the date commemorating the LA Purchase. Its very small, like a pea. It's my own "Exposition Gold Commemorative" category
