In approximate order: LCS: We have a number of decent ones here, and while they don't have a huge turnover on a week to week basis, they are honest and the prices are fair. I visit LCS in areas I visit. Shows: a monthly local show, a regional show (2 hour drive), and others if I am in the area. Coin Club: fellow members from time to time ebay: from time to time but if you factor in the higher prices and shipping, generally I only do this for items hard to find locally. on-line dealers

Robing banks and stores. However, since so many people to day are not turning in rare coins to banks, I'll slow down on that a bit. Then too there is taking coins out of those baskets they pass around at our church. All kidding I hope you know. Since I have from 2 to 4 coin shows a Month within 15 miles of me, I get all my coins from those. Going to them all the time I get to know dealers that look for certain coins for me since they travel to other shows around the country. Over the years I've checked out on line places and local coin shops but never have been able to find anything even close to what I get at coin shows. Now there is the Greater Chicago Coin & Currency show coming up Feb 15,16, 17 and I hope to find lots of stuff there. If not, another show on the 18th not far from there.

In no particular order: Izmaylovo Vernisage, Hobby City (at Cherkizovskaya), and Hobby Market (at Krasnobogatyrskaya).
Less common sources: other similar shops/markets in Moscow (e.g. Taganka), Moscow's two big weekly coin shows, similar places in other cities (whichever ones I happen to end up in; notably Kaliningrad, where I try to visit their weekly coin show at least once every August). Philately at Volgina might become a more significant place now that one of my favorite stores moved there from Hobby Market. That is still to be seen, however.
Since having found out about Moscow's big yearly coin show, I managed to actually get there (shortly before closing) and buy a few coins. Only once though... waiting for next year.
I have also received quite a few coins via CCF (as gifts from nice members, as contest prizes, or through Secret Santa). To the best of my knowledge, I've gotten a total of one coin online in ways not involving CCF (an extremely worn, harshly cleaned, and damaged dateless Matron Head large cent... only cost me $2, though).

I just recently started looking at estate sales. Heard its the only way to get good deals. I've been mostly doing internet buys, but I am realizing there is a lot of hidden costs to make a good buy and tons of competition, which means high prices.

With me it's a mixture of circulation finds, ebay, one local coin shop and a couple of UK-based dealers I've been buying the odd thing from via mail order for years. I also sometimes buy new Royal Mint products from their website. In addition to circulation finds, I buy some euro coins (such as French BU sets) on trips to Europe. I haven't found anything collectable with my metal detector for ages, but am planning to join a new club and go out again when the weather gets better!

Actually most of my coins comes from my LCS. Every week I sift through their junk silver bin. Lots of nice foreign stuff in there plus worn/damaged US 90% I get at spot. If it isn't silver, ebay would be my way to go most of the time. I also try to find what I can in local auctions, although 80% of the time it comes out overpriced for me.

Quite a bit CRHing Lincoln Cents. Most of my counterstamps have been through ebay and other smaller auction sites. Going to hit my first show next weekend. I'm pretty excited about it.

@chafemasterj prepare for heavy inflated prices and put on your negotiating hat. Probably best to wait until the last day to make your deals. Enjoy!

1. Over the years since mid 1970's, mostly from several LCS's, cherry picking from junk boxes at up to $20 per item, as well as higher valued individual coins. 2. Coin shows 3. Public auction for more valuable coins, won by single price written bids. 4. I inherited only one coin with a value of over $2,000. I have always seen each coin in hand before making a decision to buy. It therefore must follow, that I have never used ebay. Everything paid for with cash. A very effective way of deciding on a discretionary budget level for buying coins. After I kick the bucket, I have asked my kids will dispose of them in much the same way. They are free to cherry pick and keep as many as they wish for themselves. They can sell the rest as mentioned, and keep the cash for themselves. The same applies for about 200 books and papers. The coin I inherited will most probably be kept as a family heirloom. My son may even inherit my CCF identity and continue. He is most likely to add: 5. ebay.

The Internet has always been my source for buying coins. It was that way when I started collecting at age 9, and it remains that way today. I purchase from a mixture of auction sites like ebay and GreatCollections, as well as web sites of coin shops around the country. I really don't have much desire to go to a coin show any time soon. Large crowds annoy me, and from what I read about the kinds of people that go to these shows, I figure I'll probably be surrounded by people three times my age. I might go to a physical coin shop some time, though I don't foresee anything replacing the Internet as my go-to place for picking up new items for my collection.

(1) I ask the cashier every time I'm on line to buy something. If there is no one behind you most will at least look for you. (2) I get quarter rolls from my credit union They all know me, I am a regular at the coin machine. twenty dollars in 2 rolls out. maybe 2 or 3 times some days. (3) ebay but as little as possible (4) Local Coin Store
