Yep, damaged by something acidic -- like a soft drink -- which will eat away at the copper core.

Keep hunting. There's good stuff out there.

If it's acid dipped, shouldn't it be all around this one is split about half the circumference?

@Coop—I was impatient and posted this before I got my camera lens. Once I get a clearer picture I will post it.

No worries. It is still a damaged coin. The acid eats away the copper first.

i have seen a few that look like that before - on metal detecting sites.
those were found in the ocean, it eats away at the core - thats what I was told
