Hello All,
going through some 1957 LWC and found this one.
On the reverse - is this a die break or a laminaton error.
there are parts of the crack that are incuse and some areas are raised.

Take a look and see what you think.

Looks like a Lamination error. Note the cracked and flakey appearance?

On the obverse
reverse, right?

Looks like a lamination/partly split planchet to me, with some wear on the leading edge (i.e. between the A in STATES and the R in AMERICA. Does not look like PMD to me so itsa keeper!

Looks like damage to me. The letters ERI are distorted and shifted, lams don't do that.

to me the distortion looks to be more on the R - the E and I dont look shifted - couldnt it be because of the lamination ? such as a small edge got bunched up and folded over/under

as I said this area is raised and incuse at certain points along the crack

It's a lamination flaw. The R looks like the peel folded back on itself and was worn down by circulation. The upper section of the A looks like the peel came off altogether.

Nice find!

Or a struck through debris issue. Both would be minor though.

The affected area below AMERICA points definitively to a lamination flaw. I don't believe there is a strike-through there.
