1978-P LMC Die Cracks In "States" & "Epu"

I don't know how well you can see this but the middle of the "A" is busted with 2 die cracks running down and away...
One die crack runs to the "E" in "EPU"...

Really worked at polishing that clash away didn't they? That area is the front of the coat, quite a long "ridge/edge" if you think about it.

Well actually that is not from a polishing. Why not? Die polishing reduces the fields and the devices will look smaller in size. What makes the devices wider other than a doubled die? The area in question need to bring the bust up larger, so when one of two event happen, coins look like yours. One, the metal wasn't there for the raising the bust up for the obverse side. Or, the die had some grease in these devices. Thus with out the needed fill for the obverse, or if there was grease in the die, that leaves the devices looking wider than normal. Just what we see on this coin.. So the issue was not die polishing, but the strike was prevented when your coin was struck.
