Newer Dimes..silver Or Not..2 PCGS Dimes

BassPro Valued Member United States 271 Posts	Posted 02/10/2018 8:32 pm 2 PCGS graded dimes. How do you know if the coin is silver or not. Doesn't say silver on the coin and the dimes look the same. Sorry I don't have 2 of the same year but I noticed same year dime looks the same as the silver dime. All dimes are s-mints I see but can't tell difference from there Report this Post to the Staff

If you see copper color on the edge, then it is clad. If it's all silver colored (and the coin isn't plated!) then it's silver. There is also the tissue test. It works for me and is worth checking out, especially for coins in slabs or OGP lenses. For raw coins, weight is a also a good way to tell. Compare the weight to the spec for each along with other diagnostics and it should be clear which it is.
