My picture is not great, however I assume a die chip from the post breaking off in the lower portion of the 8 and a couple post breaks between the rim and end of front shirt dressing (straight down from "1" in date to the left) ? That is not great to the eye to see in the picture though. My first chip in date error. Edited by CJ18850 02/11/2018 10:51 am

Thank you! Yes die crack, (forgot to mention) but two pieces of seperate chips east of the crack. Yes? One possible to add as a Cud, since it sits on the rim? Hope these pictures are better.

Not a die chip on the '8'. That is a broken post that would have made the round area in the center of that device before it broke off the die.

Thanks Coop! That's why I wasn't sure of the chip, yet leaning more towards a post break. I'm getting there with everyone's help.

I call that crack below the bust a "pre-cud" die crack. Very common in 1983. Isn't a post break still a die chip? John1

Not really. A chip often looks like a bit of chewing gum that chipped away from an edge of a device. On a broken post, the needle like thin area of the die breaks off, not forming the center of the device. This can happen slowly and just part of the area would be partly affected. Totally it can even break off part of the die and make that area above the device that was affected. On this one, it looks like this happened. The area in question is above the device. So some of that area broke off the die making it above the device.

They are usually pretty easy to find when searching though coins.
