That's eject doubling. The edges of the letters were scooped up when the coin was forced off the die. No premium value, but a decent example.

Guaranteed, this will not be in the CherryPickers' Guide. That guide is for doubled dies, repunched mintmarks, and other scarce die varieties. Eject doubling is a very common Strike Doubling effect.

Hi,

This is indeed ejection doubling and it is not any form of die doubling. This type of doubling is mentioned in a section of of the CPG on what doesn't command a premium or what is basically a worthless form of doubling.

If I had to place a realistic number on this type of thing with respect to the Kennedys I've searched through, I would say that more than 40% of all the Kennedy half dollars I've seen have this kind of damage.

It is a form of damage.

I have an article at http://www.askaboutcoins.com on Kennedy half varieties with pictures of what to look for on them. left Click on the link to the article, then left click on the link at the bottom of the picture to open the picture in a new window. Then hold your mouse over the picture and left click to magnify it. The notches on the S of the 1969 D Half that I show shows what to look for versus the flat shelflike, damaged lettering as seen in the above thread.

Thanks,
Bill
