Hi All. first post in my new hobby, can anyone shed some light on the origins of this coin? It's wafer thin btw. I think the cross might be Medieval British? thanks in Advance, Dan.  Edited by DJS0767

Ain't "bi-metal, just way pressure has made metal to form. It looks more like a seal than a coin. No indication of lettering of any kind, but then again neither are some early central Asian varieties. In style of very early Sassinid, but again, not. Don't know?

@DJS0767, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @crazyb0 that it is likely your coin has differential toning, but is actually only one metal alloy (most likely silver). To answer your specific question, I agree that this penny is most likely medieval British, Scottish, or Irish. All three regions had coins with that distinctive double cross on the rev during the 11th and 12th centuries. However, in looking through my copy of Spinks, I can't find an exact match for you. I'm going to recommend to the mods that your post be moved over to the ancients and medieval coin area so hopefully we can get some additional eyeballs on this and get you a better attribution.
Finally, I agree with @petrus that having some background could be useful. Was this a ground find for you or something that you bought/inherited?

Thanks to all who replied, The only background I have is that it was inherited from an avid coin collector. I'll head over to the ancient and medieval forum and see if I can get any more info, cheers. Edited by DJS0767
