US Mint - The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for collectible bags and rolls of 2018 Kennedy half dollar coins on March 20 at noon Eastern Time (ET). Available product options and their prices are as follows: PRODUCT OPTION MINT MARK PRICE
200-Coin Bag P and D $139.95
Two-Roll Set P and D $32.95 All product options contain circulating finish Kennedy half dollars from the Denver Mint and the Philadelphia Mint facilities that have not been placed in circulation. The coin rolls are wrapped in United States Mint paper coin wrap marked with a "P" or "D" for the mint of origin and "$10" for the face value. Each bag is marked with a "P" and "D" for the mint of origin and "$100" for the face value of the contents. The obverse (heads) of the Kennedy half dollar features the original 1964 design of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2018." The reverse (tails) design is based on the Presidential seal and consists of a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast holding a symbolic olive branch and a bundle of 13 arrows. A ring of 50 stars surrounds the design with the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "HALF DOLLAR."

It's still one of the most magnificent coins we have.

Who here regularly buys the 200 coin bags? How do you store them? In the bag or do you put them in tubes? Just curious as to what people do with them.

Does the half dollar program really generate loads of cash for the mint? Seems senseless producing a NIFC coin exclusively for collectors if these aren't going to be used for commerce. I doubt these NIFC coins will have much value because they are all MS. Surprised they aren't issuing S mint halves.

Quote: It's still one of the most magnificent coins we have. I agree! Quote: Just curious as to what people do with [200 coin bags]. Just a few options/guesses: 1) looking for errors, 2) cherrypicking the best examples, 3) spending, 4) easy change for concession stands that round everything to the nearest half dollar, 5) selling on eBay/at coin shows Quote: Does the half dollar program really generate loads of cash for the mint? Seems senseless producing a NIFC coin exclusively for collectors if these aren't going to be used for commerce. Their inclusion in mint sets helps their case quite a bit, I'd imagine. It's also possible the Mint is anticipating that smaller denominations will eventually be phased out, generating the need for halves to be used again. Quote: Surprised they aren't issuing S mint halves. The U.S. Mint does issue S mint halves -- in proof sets.

Premium's a little high, especially for the rolls. Is there an additional shipping charge?

People also buy them in the hope of getting a few high grade coins that they can get graded. Often, they spend the sub-par examples.

Maybe adding NIFC business strike S halves would breathe some new life in this otherwise stale series.

Quote:Did it work for the ATB? Asking for a friend. No, it didn't. Too many options with the ATB Quarters. It MAY work with the Kennedy halves with a single option to pick them up. Five options for a widely circulated coin vs one option for a non circulating coin.

Since 1992 I have been using blank (undated, unlabeled) Dansco pages for my half dollars. If they decided to issue business strikes from the San Francisco mint, I could easily slip them into place. Downside is I lose that one-year-per-row look I have had since 1992.

Quote: breathe some new life in this otherwise stale series. Pretty much feel this way about silver eagles. I would love it if they retired the silver eagle and resumed the silver buffalo.
