I am wondering if this is a legit or fake coin and if it is real, what the value of it is. Thank you in advance for your comments/expertise.

The dark toning around the devices leads me to believe it is probably a Chinese fake.

I have several of these and many look similar to yours. I wouldn't consider it fake at all due to the damage and wear. If it's a Chinese fake it's one that's very old imho. Like 100 years old. The Chinese suck at faking wear and tear if they weren't we'd all be in trouble.

Waaaaaay too simplistic. Obviously, MOST circulated coins show some degree of toning/patina around the devices:

-- lazy part-cleanings/wipes often do not reach into these protected areas
-- constant handling/circulation rubbing has a similar effect. Again, as those areas are protected, our palms/fingertips don't get in those nooks
-- metal flow can lead to differential tone around the peripheral legends, etc.

You have to be able to differentiate what is natural from what is not.
Rest in Peace

Send it in for TPG.

Authenticity questions would then be answered.

Please keep us posted. Thx and good luck!

Odd to hear such blind reliance in TPGs that do not even weigh the coins that are submitted to them. Today none of the TPGs determine SG or employ XRF unless an added fee is assessed. I am of the opinion that scientific testing is a must for any World Coin that is not mass produced using modern hubs and presses.
