Found this cent in a bank roll, first thought it was cleaned up or something and that's why it appears like scratches in certain areas.

Looking at it closer, I noticed few of things:

1. No color change
2. It appears for example: Back on Lincoln's head but not on Lincoln himself and under the building and not on the monument.
3. The scratch seems raised not cut in

Let me know if I have something here...thanks in advanced.

Those are called Die Scratches. That happens when they polish out the die after a Die Clash has happened.

Not a keeper, but you can keep it if you like for future references. Die Scratches don't carry any premiums, but they are still interesting since it can serve as die markers for Doubled Dies and also can tell you what die state the die is in.

This is the surface of a die, it gets the polish lines but the incused details don't.

Nothing valuable, but you found it and asked good questions with great photos. Nothing wrong with saving it as an example.

Have you weighed it? I weigh all the 1983 cents I find. You never know -- there could be another copper cent out there.

Oh well, the odds were against it being a rare copper coin. It has held up well for a zincoln.
