Hello. I came across this penny today. I know how much a pic would help with this, but I cannot get a scan to show the coin very well so once I have time, I will try to get some good pics. Well, it is a 1935 Wheat penny... on both side of the coin, left of center, there appear to be "pits". The pit is about the size of Lincoln's head. At first I thought it was damage after the mint... but half of the word liberty is in the pit and it appears to be quite sharp, same with his head. On the reverse, the pit is there, but the sharpness is not there. The C in CENT is nearly all gone, as well as NI in UNITED. Now like I said, I know how important a picture is, but until I get one up, does anyone have any clue on this, or know of any others like how I described. I have the newest RedBook, and in the error section, there was not anything like this. Thanks, Jordan Edited by jdheyne 12/27/2005 08:22 am

Without pics, there really isn't much to go on. Based on your description, it could be a lamination error, or possiblly Struck Through Grease. Lots of possibilities including after the mint damage

I really can't tell based on the pics. It looks more like damage, but would have to see better pics or the coin to be sure. There is a possibility of a flawed planchet, but just too hard to tell. Sorry.

If it were to be a flawed planchet, what kind of value are you looking at?

If it is a planchet flaw and not damage? someone who is interested in planchet errors may pay a couple of bucks for it .

You could expect to see anywhere between $2 and $10 if determined to be a genuine error.

That coin isn't an error, it has been in a fire and has partially melted due to the fact. Spend it and let some kid find it - that's what I do with my damaged wheats.
