*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Hello,

Well like the title says I come across this type of damage marking on my Mercury dime coins...they're like successive crescent shape cuts...here is a picture of one of my 1937-D Mercury dimes. Any help would be appreciated, damage or error? Thank you!

To CCF! What you have here is Post Mint Damage. The metal is pushed up and has moved the metal.

@mr2, I think that you are talking about the two curved marks across the fasces, right? Those look like damage that occurred after this coin left the mint.

Edit: Where are my manners? Welcome to CCF!

I agree with the above: it's just damage.

Marks like this, often circular and center-located, were often caused by the early, spring-loaded vending machines, dating back to the 1930-40's. Consequently, this is PMD.
