I know nothing about coins and my grandfather loved them. He gave me a plastic bag of silver dollar coins from 1796 a 1906 before he passed. Any suggestions on what to do? Any input is appreciated.

A 1796 Dollar can be worth tens of thousands of dollars! Pictures would be very helpful.

 to CCF. Sorry for your loss. First step is to post pics front and back of one coin per post. The magnet test is to see if it is made from silver or is a fake. Sometimes a weight is required. Do not clean them and handle only by the edges. But first post some pics. John1  |

Welcome to our community and sorry for your loss. I know uploading images is a tedious task especially for 38 coins and to tell you the truth, we would need to see both sides to grade the coin. I would first, write a post describing each coin. Example: 1) Silver 1912 american coin 1$ value (Heads side says "E Pluribus Unum") We can tell this is a Morgan dollar2) Silver 1925 american coin 1$ value (Heads side says "Liberty") We can tell this is a Liberty dollar so on and so on. From this list we can tell you which coins are worth the upload of images. The reason we need to see the coins is because coins values vary in range do to their grade or how the look. The nicer less used or our terms uncirculated a coin is the more they are worth to collectors. Yes Magnet test will reveal if the coins are real silver but there is more value to some coins then their silver content. Another option would be to your local coin shop and ask for a book that will have a listing of all coins and their values. Again prices will range do to condition. In the end your grandfather left you something he cherished, enjoy the hunt and peek into a part of his life. |

I am skeptical honestly. There is no 1906 silver dollar. I AM aware of a very common fake 1906 silver dollar though.

Other posters are correct about the 1906 dollar. No U.S. silver dollars were minted between 1904 and 1921. It may be a half dollar, though. "Nummi rari mira sunt, si sumptus ferre potes." - Christophorus filius Scotiae
