Yes, worth face value, but I'll still keep it anyway because it's cool. The weight is normal (2.2 grams). This post is for educational purposes only. :)

Thank you Harley. While it may not be valuable, it is still a fun find and that's what matters. As long as you're having fun, then that's all that matters. I'll keep it as a educational piece in my collection album.

Think it's more than JUST a Greaser, get Coop's opinion. The details on the reverse are too wide and no rim off-set on top, I'm thinking a low pressure strike that didn't press the details out right. This plus a possible slight obverse MAD and the grease. I have a hard time with that no rim offset, grease has nothing to fill there...unlese it it was a very big glob of it!

Crazyb0, I will PM Coop to see what he thinks of it. Just sent Coop an email with the link to the thread. We'll see what he thinks about the coin.

I have a box marked "minor errors and oddities" for such coins.

DrDon, that's actually a great idea for stuff like this. Maybe I should start doing that for minor errors and for all of these oddities. Pocket change finds can be very interesting, even if it isn't worth more than face value.

I think it's an Inadequate Upset error. The perimeter devices are insufficiently formed. It's famous for 1985 dimes.

Is the diameter and weight normal? Also does the edge reeding go all the way around? Thanks, Doug.

Looks like a Struck Through Grease issue on the reverse. Note how the devices are wider next to where the rim area should be. But it is common on the 1985 dimes as CoinMasters mentioned. So it is pretty much run of the mill for that year.
