It seems to me that on the Large Date, the date approaches the top of leaf 6, while the Small Date, the date approaches the second projection.

Yet your site victoriancent.com appears to make my point. Comparing 30044 and 30046, the top of the second 1 reaches much higher on the leaf on the LD than appears on this coin -- at least to my eye.

The "91" was manually punched into each Large Date die, so they are in different spots on each die.

In Dies & Diadems, I catalogued 31 different LD reverse dies, so there are 31 different locations for the "91" in the large date coins.

For me, it's easy to discern the large dates .. the shape/font of the 9 is entirely different than the "small date" 9. Just look at the inside space/shape of the upper loop of the 9. Similarly, look at leaf 9 (under the 8) to see how close the leaf lobe is to the denticle to determine large leaves.
