Ok I got 230 Wheat penny's that I saved up,and I have no idea on which ones are valuable if any(I did look for the 1943 copper no luck haha).
I'd keep them even if not just do to the fact of not being made anymore and there age and thinking of the story's they could tell.
But i'd hate to have one of value sitting in the jarand not knowing it.

Also if I'm right any quarter 1964 and older is silver?
Does that go for nickles and dimes also?

Thanks

There are quite a number of valuable wheat cents. I'm not an avid collector yet but you can't go wrong with the 19081909 S VDB. Others may chime in with a list but if you look at the Red Book, that will give you an idea of what's hot.

Yes, all 1964 and older quarters, dimes and halves are 90% silver. Nickels are not, but Wartime nickels are 35% silver.

Have fun!

edit: fixed 1908 --> 1909

A few other more valuable wheat cents are the 1914 D, 1922, and 1931 S. Any wheat cents from after 1940 aren't worth much, maybe 2 or 3 cents.

Actually it is the 1909 s VDB that is the key date... from 1909 - 1915 are all hard to find, 21, 22(no D) just a few to look for.

yes the pre 64 Dimes and quarters are all silver. the nickels were only silver during the war from 42-45 they have a large letter (mint Mark) above Monteccello either P,D or S.

all other nickels are cupro-nickle.

If you don't have anything older than 1919, here are some valuable dates that were made after 1919:

1922-D
1922 No D
1931-S
1944-D, D over S
1955 Doubled Die Obverse

They are all quite common dates, the 46 is a "greased filled strike thru", just a typical machining problem not an error. I've gotten to saving up LWCs I scrounge, CRH , auctions, other purchases...once I get to 1,000 or more, sell 'em! After all the problems of storing, then selling off over 33,000 of them buggers, I sure don't want anymore buckets full!
