1912-S Liberty Head Nickel - Opinions Please

Back in the 60s my wife inherited her father's (he passed when she was just a young girl) well circulated Liberty Head Nickels that he had collected from circulation. She just kept most of nickels wrapped in saran wrap and stored in an old coffee can. After nearly 35 years of marriage, a few months ago I decided to put them in a coin tube, but didn't check the dates. Today, I was going through them and putting them in date order and when I looked at the 1912s there was a D and what I think is an S

The mm is kind of a blob, but it looks like an S to me. Also, it looks to me like 4 letters of Liberty are showing, so I guess I'd grade it at VG-8, probably details planchet flaw as well.

What do you think? Is this a 1912-S?

I agree it's an S mint mark, but VG8 maybe details, looks like rim damage to me, seeing some flat spots around 3:00 on the obverse rim? Could be the photo lighting though.

Thanks everyone for confirming S mm.

Yes, I think the rim is dinged a bit on the obverse at 3:00 and also I think there's a little planchet flaw pretty much dead center on the obverse.

Not planning on getting it graded, but if I did then I'm fairly confident that PCGS would give it a details grade.

Impossible to say. They lived in NJ, but who knows when/where her father picked it up. The 40s and early 50s were a bit hectic with WWII and Korea. Her father was a Navy veteran in both. I suppose he could have even gotten it in the 30s when he was young himself.
