I'm no expert, but I suspect ICG just labeled either an altered "normal" 1937 D nickel as a variety or perhaps it is an outright fake.
This is not a progression of the famous and authentic 1937 D three legged variety.
On the real 1937 D three legged nickel, the E PLURIBUS UNUM does not touch the back of the buffalo, where this one clearly does.
It is not struck from the authentic 1937 D three legged reverse die.
I need some help here and am not confident in ICG's attribution. Is there such a variety? I have never heard of a 1937 D 3 1/2 legged Buffalo nickel. I have heard of the 1936 D 3 1/2 legged Buffalo nickel but this isn't that reverse die either.
I suspect, this got by the "professional grader" at ICG and I wouldn't buy it until somebody enlightens me on this as a legitimate collectible variety. Be careful!
Buy the coin, and not the holder rings loud and clear once again.
