This shows up on fields near the devices that face the closest rim direction.

On the date to the right, LIBERTY to the left and the motto on the tops of the devices. Happens on the single squeeze dies on the fields area and is called die wear. Not actually hub doubling just the die is again and breaking down. No premium for this. It happens on all the single squeeze dies in all denominations as the die ares and starts to break down.

Thanks for that picture. They really are worth a thousand words.

I actually found a 1997 with the same "doubling" so was figuring it had to be something like that.

The 1997 I found also has some sort of die abrasion. The IB of LIBERTY is almost gone as is the I of IN. The reverse shows doubling of all the lettering toward the rim. Is that from the single squeeze process?
