Hey guys,

I pretty much know nothing about collecting paper money, I've always just had a tendency towards coins.

However my grandmother has just given me her money collection (she's in her 90s) and I'm starting to have an interest.

She has the biggest collection of Canadian 2 Dollar bills I've ever seen in my life. 50-60 bills. And I've noticed that she liked collecting consecutive serial numbers.

Pictured is the biggest string of 5 in a row. But she also has a 4, 3 and about 10 sets of 2.

I'm just wondering if this is a rare or an uncommon thing to have?

Also, is there anything else I should be on the look out for in terms of rarity with these 2 Dollar bills?

Thanks for any help

I can't really help as I am unfamiliar with collectable paper money in general.

What I can do is bump the topic.

Not much of a premium for consecutive numbers in the Bird Series.
Just too many around. I have seen 100 consecutive numbers for sale.
What you can do is look for special serial numbers such as rotator or repeater notes.
These would have a bit of a premium.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys.

I've recently heard something in the news about a 1986 2 Dollar Bill selling for $15,000?... something about the signatures and AUH serial number? Anyone know anymore?

The $2.00 bill you are referring to has the Thiessen-Crow
signature with a prefix of AUG. They are pretty rare
though, hense the high price.
If you would like more info on your bills,
check out this website. Lots of info and prices.

Welcome to the hobby, it's a great deal of fun. Your $2 bills appear Uncirculated, or UNC, and would probably fetch about $7.5 apiece on ebay.

The Charlton Catalogue of Canadian Paper Money would be of some help in identifying a scarce prefix or something, but it's likely that you don't have any of them. Still, if you're thinking about collecting, do get a copy and see what you have, as well as what is out there to collect.
