I am new to collecting but really getting into it now My passion is already Morgan dollarsI bought a 1888 s on e-bay 99 bucks Took my coin magnifying glass out to look for Vams: What is this called ? too the right of her bun you can see wheat top from back , little more to the right you cam see AME from back. Coming out of the bottom of her neck is the end of Eagle wing.... Looks like knife at first glance Outlines from back go all around the girls face in the background. What VAM is this: nothing on VAM sight *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Could use a clearer image to determine exactly what this is... but from what I can see, I suspect this may be "Graffiti" <<<< after the mint, someone punched or engraved the images that appear as clash marks....
AGAIN,,,, I am not saying that is what this is... without clearer pictures I do not believe you will get a definite answer...

Is the AME from "America" showing through at the top left where it is written on the sleeve? If yes, then it for sure is not correct... The AME from America would show at the bottom right, below the M of "UNUM".

We need clearer images of both sides of the coin. I recommend you check the exact weight and diameter of this coin. Also, check if it sticks to a magnet. Something about this coin doesn't look right, but it may just be the blurry images. to the CCF!

Here is a link to the known VAM listings for '88-S. http://www.vamworld.com/1888-S+VAMsWhile there are several clashed die listings none are as extreme as the example you have posted. Unfortunately, what you have is a Chinese fantasy counterfeit.

Don't despair too much over it being a fake...there are a couple options... return it for refund... or keep it as an example of what clashing looks like... There were some coins struck by Dan Carr ...these "Morgans" were dated 1964 and were made to show the clashing... many VAM collectors find these coins useful in learning and understanding "clashing" ( I just looked and found some Dan Carr 1964 clashed "Morgans" going for about $199.00....)

File a complaint with ebay as it is a Chinese fake. It doesn't matter in the least if the seller accepts returns or not.

It's still a Chinese fake.
