I'm not even going to hazard a guess. Please let me know what, in your opinion, do I have here?

I think that is Die Deterioration.

Looks to be a mix of Machine Doubling and Die Deterioration, not a doubled die. I can see why you'd ask, I'd probably do a double take on that one.

I agree with Tanman that's a combination of Die Deterioration from normal die wear and Machine Doubling since the devices have been reduced in size. Severe die wear was notorious on Lincoln Wheat cents from the 1950's.

The die was in pretty bad shape when this coin was struck. It had a die chip on the left wheat grains and in VLDS when it was struck. The MD didn't help either. But the worst news, it not a doubled die.
