I wanted to ask if a 1970 S LMC with an crack Located on obverse, between
GOD &. We.
running North/South into Lincoln's head. (It fades out somewhere west of ear.)
Is this a variety?
Is there an interest in die cracks?
I have plucked a few out of my pocket / purse change recently, (nothing earth shaking) but obviously a cracked die, even to the Coinvirgin's inexperienced eye

Minor die cracks are interesting, but not much beyond that. It depends on how big it is. Rim-to-rim bisecting die cracks may actually have a premium value.

What you describe would be called a "Spike Head" die crack. They run from the rim into Lincoln's cranium. They are moderately common.

I suppose you could call them varieties since there is a site that catalogues them*. Here is the page for 1970s spike heads:

Do you have pics?

*Edit: in reality, I agree with coop. They are not actual die varieties.

I agree with @spruett, especially in the request for some pictures of your so-called "spike heads".

Actually not a true die variety. More of a die event that happened to the die after the die was used. A true die variety is a doubled die or RPM as they were on the die, before the die was used. That is my term for a variety. There are also others also but in different time periods. OD date over same year devices, both visible (over date on 19th century coins) OMM Over mint mark. (A different mint mark from another mint location over the new one) RPD Repunched date. (mostly only 19th century coins) I know not everyone agrees with me, but that is how I view the term 'Variety.'
