Paramaras of Malwa 1200-1300? OR Siharas of Khankan (1000-1200 AD)?

This came with a few mixed Indian coins when I saw it I was sure Finn had posted a similar coin but have searched and can't find anything.....

This is what I've found out so far..

Any help appreciated..Paul

Nice one!

These are fairly scarce, not cheap, and don't come with a lot of variety, so I only have two for the time being. Traditional attribution is to the Silaharas, but I'll have to read Maheshwari's chapter on the coins... I believe they are usually found in the central portion of Malwa, not down the coast which would have been the Silahara base of power.

They are closely related to the Malwa type, and branched off very early since they have a usual ear behind the bust, while most Malwa types have either Ja or Ma between the head and the ear.

I'll see if I can dig photos of my two coins out of my photobucket.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the break down Steve, will love to see the coin photos!
Numista has this description...
Reverse
The battle scene on the reverse shows a mounted warrior with sword to right.
Below a fallen body and to the right a standing figure defending himself
with a shield. Behind the horse a bow.

Exhumed from the photobucket grave!

Siharas-Of-Khankan-1000-1200-Ad?

Siharas-Of-Khankan-1000-1200-Ad?

Both of mine have reverses more centered on the horseback rider; the die was probably about 20mm for a coin that averaged 13-14mm.

Great coins Steve!

Thanks for spending the time to dig them out...Really looking forward to seeing your revised research thread up and running again

Must say, considering the size of these coins, and the abstract designs used, there is a lot going on in the reverse...
Looked at a few other photos of these coins and here's what I think is being depicted..
Paul and his paint shop strike again!
