I have two very thin LWC pennies. The one I'm showing only weighs 1.61 grams.? Is this a counterfeit?

I was going to say that as well. It has been dipped in acid and has shrunken in size. Post Strike Damage.
Errers and Varietys.

Quote: That has been dipped in acid. Sounds good to me, if your fetching at struck on a dime plantchet then it would be silver. Can anybody tell me why coins are dipped in acid? Science experiments? Small Johhnie in his dad's garage?

I never would have thought about that myself in two million years. Thank you so much for your insight. Can any body tell me why I have a green arrow on my listings?

I believe it was cut down and worn down by kids in the 60s to use in a gumball/toy machine. Since back then, the machines were all the crank ones, any dime sized disc would work.

I agree this particular coin seems altered by acid after strike. Quote:I have two very thin LWC pennies. Curious about the other coin. Is it similar or something different? Seen examples of legit coins struck on rolled thin or sometimes split planchets before and after strike. Not to mention foreign and or off metal strikes. That said 99 times out of a 100 seems they've been altered after strike. Thanks, Doug.

with altered post mint. Acid dipped is a good theory ... truth is we never know how the PMD coins came to be ... but alas for you this is a classic and often seen PMD coin

Thank's everybody for your input. The other is of a different date but shows the exact features. An old coin friend told me that they used then in dime machines. It's not a good way to get your kids into coin collecting.
