Whew ! When it rains it pours, and in my line of work you have to take advantage of that. I have missed a couple Wednesday's and one Saturday at the shop- so far- because of the side work I do...Money's good, but I would rather be at the shop !

Anyway, I have accumulated quite a few coins over the last month that I have not had the time to post so I figured I would just post a few here and let everyone know I am still out here

First up is silver round I just found today. A regular customer that comes in most every Saturday to buy silver in varying amounts, wanted a few ounces in 1oz bars. While looking through the basket of melt rounds and bars of various sizes, I found this particular piece. I don't know if it is a commemorative or just a fancy round- I didn't ask- I just bought it. I thought the toning was really cool, not particularly colorful but the toning looks like clouds/fog to me the way it runs in strips across the obverse - and with a ship on it- need I say more ?

If I do not need a particular coin to complete or upgrade a set I can be easily moved to it if it has eye appeal- to me anyway. Most times when I see coins like the ones below, I don't even look at the date (not purposely, just not much of a factor at that point ) and alot of the time I have made the decision of whether I want to own it regardless of the date (common dates here remember). The only factor then becomes grade/price...if we agree I am a happy camper !

I don't think I have posted any of these before, I try to keep track, if I have I apologize ...

This coin has been calling out to me for awhile, and I finally broke down and bought it. Not real expensive, but a fair amount for a Frankie graded MS-65. I guess it took me a long time to grade this one through the toning , maybe that's why I took my time with it- Maybe I will send it in sometime for another opinion- then break it out when it comes back 64...

This one came form the melt bag, as soon as I saw it I thought- Mint Set Toning- Interesting pattern , and it did not deserve to be orphaned, for 6 bucks you can't go wrong IMO.

Another Morgan with some color...

This one came from the melt bag too, and it's for sale (see price marked) offers accepted yes...it really is stuck to the coin

Good laugh on that one, and the others that came in with it

I promised KurtS he could have the next batch of stones out of the "dirt" in the breakout box... I finally got to get through it today. I am guessing most of them are glass, but you never know...I promised him I would not post pics of the stones so he would be surprised...but I am going to anyway...KurtS...Avert your gaze...

Ha ! Just Kidding, I am sure Kurt will share any interesting finds from the mystery envelope when he gets it.

Still looking through the Indian Head cents at the shop, with probably another 8-10 thousand War Nickels accumulating..and a few thousand more Buffalo's waiting...Still busy as ever buying, although it has slowed a little, the lines are still there.

Things will slow down for me eventually, until then I might be a "weekend poster" - I am pretty tired during the week when I do get home, and the weekends are about to become workdays too if I ever want to get these jobs done. I'll be Bak...

I always like your posts! And I just remembered I forgot to read or comment on your last one(whoops!), but it should be in my subscription...

I like the franklin. How does the morgan look like in hand. I don't care for the blue in the pictures.

The stones just arrived in the mail today...wow, that's so cool, thanks!
I'll let you and the forum in on anything I find...this will be fun!

Update so far: the sad news is...one of these was a genuine ruby, around 1.5 carats. Not high-grade, but real--it passed the tests. You sent half of it.
Ah well...I just found another natural ruby/red sapphire. I'll post pics later.

Sorry about the half stone KurtS...the other half is probably in the garbage ! The stones are lucky to make it out of the mountings in one piece most of the time since we use a delicate HAMMER to release alot of them, I try to be more careful, but if I take too much time they might not want me to do it anymore. KurtS, no need to reciprocate with anything, it was my pleasure - they would just sit around here taking up space anyway . Glad you are enjoying them !

I would love to send a "Mystery Package" to all members...but that seems to be alot these days ! One at a time, you just never know...

Amazon, that Morgan looks alot better in hand, that pic shows the color but it's not a real flattering pic. The colors in those pics of the 1897 have alot more luster to them than the dullness would suggest. I will try to get a couple better pics of that one posted this weekend.

Unfortunately I will not be able to work at the shop this week on Saturday (already missed this past Wednesday too ) but Nick assures me that he has something for me when I get back ! I really dislike not getting in there at least once a week...and not being able to get on here nearly as much...All work and no play makes Steve a dull boy ! Have a great weekend people !!

No problem at all...just a bit of a shock. Thanks again!

Here's a shot of everything that tests as a ruby--by hardness. (In the Mohs scale, ruby is 9 and diamond is 10)
The top left three I'm sure are synthetic. On the bottom, the first is the broken natural stone, the next two cut naturals due to inclusions, and the third a possible cut natural--but clean.

The fourth on the top is something special. It (appears) to me to be an older, real stone with exceptional color. While it could easily be synthetic, it has more depth than the rest. It is about 1.5 carat.

Steve, again I appreciate this cool gift! And it's a lot of fun to test these. If you ever do this again, I'll gladly trade coins for these
If anyone wants to see the other stones, I'll post photos as I get to them. These are going into the safe deposit pronto!

Well blow me down ! Glad you like them Kurt, I figured them to be pretty much worthless glass. Shows how much I know about gemstones I guess the clear stones were not diamonds The owner of the shop also used to buy diamonds, but not so much anymore. Anything under 1 carat is hard to sell, so he does not buy them (but sometimes people sell the gold jewellery anyway -irregardless of the diamond) I am sure some smaller ones slip by- I'll keep my eyes peeled (not that I would know a real one anyway )

Nice pics by the way !

As for trading, don't worry about it- it might be awhile before I get to them again , and they have no real value to me, other than the postage it does not cost me anything. I would rather have someone that appreciates them get them - I do not need another hobby right now...

It was sure fun to look through these, and sometime today I'll post a brief guide on how people can sort stones, since breaking out jewelry for melt is such a common practice at coins shops.

It would be cool to look through more someday, but no expectations there.
It will take me quite some time to sort the stones here--thanks again!
