Crazyb0, tks, am starting to understand this a little bit at a time, am rereading the write up you posted coin IDing for dummies, that would be me. I still got so much to learn.
Dog, you got a heartbreaking teaser there. I have a 1983 cent just like yours with the 983 strike doubled in nice wide letters east. But...the doubling is flat and thin which puts it in the mechanical damage arena. I keep these teasers as reference to compare with known doubled varietys and it always bears true thin shelve like doubling indicates strike damage. It ties me in knots my strike doubled cents as some of them are awesome, then I look at say a 1983 FS 101 see the fat rounded doubling and come to my senses. Your example is tricky, it almost looks rounded, I defer. I really don't know?
