A knowledgable person has recommended that I consider toluene as an alternative to acetone to remove lacquer from an expensive red Canadian wartime cent.
I am afraid of the potential for acetone to negatively impact the lustre/colouring of the copper...the wartime cents are very tricky.
Has anyone here ever used toluene on red copper? Does anyone know what the right process is?
Having used toluene for 30 years as a road paint thinner and cleaner,I know it's a very quick acting cleaner. I'd recommend useing it on a less valuable coin first to see what effect it has. Don't breath the fumes or get it on your skin.
