I've seen the doubled eyes on older cents. I'll leave that to someone that knows more about it than I do. The crevice on the jaw is damage to the coin. Cents turn color naturally (sometimes it's induced with heat), over time they go red to red brown, to brown basically. No one knows why, but some develope multi-colors.
Hey sparky! (Me too, AA in Elect. Tech, 1976) doubling is usually quite obvious. I've found moving the light source around will change the effects I think you're trying to zero in on. It becomes a matter of Die Deterioration, shifting at strike(MD) and reflection of light/shadows...read up below on just how a doubled die is formed, maybe that will help.
