Paul, it does look Parthian but not one that I've seen with that reverse. Bob will know for sure.

Sorry I missed this post earlier in the day, Paul. Yes, it's Parthian, a chalkous of Vardanes I, 40-45 AD, Sellwood type 64 variant.

Here are some for reference:

Thanks Bob!

Seller has it completely miss-attributed so I'll put in a bid as at the moment its sitting at 1.50$.....It seems to be less common than other reverses?

Any idea what would be a fair price for this coin,it has a couple of days to go?

Thanks again Paul

Definitely. Yours, Paul, is one of only four that I am aware of. You might find this thread at Forum interesting: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/bo...pic=108298.0
(I'm Robert L3 there...Schatz is a major Parthian collector, as is Alwin, whose Parthika.fr site is right up there with Parthia.com in its importance for research)

Your coin is very rare, but there isn't all that much collector interest in these chalkoi, so there's no pricing standard. I don't know what Schatz and Alwin paid for theirs.

The one that was listed at CNG (from the Coinproject link I provided) was part of a 5-coin lot, all Parthian AE's, sold in 2010, that went for $180: https://cNGCoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=153476

This isn't very scientific since I doubt each of the five was truly worth exactly the same, but you could generalize by assuming $36 for each coin in the lot, I suppose. You could use that as a basis - although the rarity of the Vardanes should, theoretically, raise its value from there.

It'll be a nice little acquisition, a true Parthian rarity. Good luck!

Won the coin!...38$ Really pleased...

Thanks Bob for the information it was really appreciated and allowed me to bid with confidence knowing a bit more about the coin and its rarity...
Luckily for me the seller didn't have the attribution correct (wrong ruler) and also had the reverse upside down and so described it as a crown, this must of helped keep the price down..
Will post some pictures when it arrives..Thanks again

Hmmm. Perhaps it takes a bit of time to go through? I did get a copy in my email. In any event, I just tried again.

Update: I also just messaged you on another forum.
