Hey all, seen this in some change I got back at the store and noticed it has a mirror like surface. Is this a proof coin? Does have some surface scratches on the obverse.Sorry about the light. It is very reflective.

Dwayne...yes, it is now known as an impaired proof, since it has been out in circulation.

Congrats on finding one in the wild and recognizing it.
Rest in Peace

It is and will remain a proof coin, called "impaired" proof now because its been damaged in circulation, grading as PF50

@AD, first welcome to CCF. Second, it is probably worth it to save this coin in a 2x2 for protection from further damage. Nice find!

If the date is 1978 and it has an S mint mark it HAS to be a proof.

Proof is a strike, not a grade.
