Hi there!

First time poster, true to say that this new hobby has been instrumental in saving my life from the nasty epidemic that sweeps our nation, here's to the obsessive needing an obsession...

Anyways, I well understand that most "errors" are likely just circ damage from rollers, counters, etc, however being an engineer I can often reason where certain distinct markings come from.

In this 1975 D nickel, I have found the letting on the obverse, "In God We Trust", to be significantly distorted, but I cannot tell if it's just flattened from rollers or a die problem. This trouble is borne from another blemish, being a deep chip or indentation off the letter "W". I don t have a scope, thanks to recently passed "hobbies" and finances, so I do all my inspections via Google pixel 2 lit 8x video, apologies for quality.

May simply be Die Deterioration after many strikes.

to CCF. It is just circulation damage. Maybe from a bubble gum type machine or a coin counter/wrapper machine. I do not see it as a mint error or mint variety.

The damage to the top of the letters is caused by a coin rolling machine crimps the edges of the coin role. The void in the field and side of the W could be either from a small strike through or possibly circulation damage.

I agree, it's damaged. But no harm in asking.

Since you mentioned you're an engineer, you might enjoy reading up on error coins here: http://www.error-ref.com/

By the way, your pics were fine.
